“Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation”
Just by considering audience so frequently (in things such as audience analysis sheets) we have strengthened our ability to examine audience needs and predict audience expectations. I have often created papers that have multiple audiences and/or particularly unique or distinct ones, and yet I have been able to avoid the need for multiple versions of my texts by approaching genres with an appropriate amount of creativity. I have taken advantage of modular elements and other genre particulars to address the needs and expectations of all relevant audiences (figure 20). I have also made my documents as effective as possible simply by doing my job well, i.e. writing effective genre elements, and using the interplay of different sections, such as in my lab report, to make strong cases that in turn strengthen my goals (figure 21).
