CLO #2

“Enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment”

The progression of this course, namely the slate of genres that we have been required to write, has also required us to engage in more and more revision.  My group’s final product for the proposal was miles away from what it was in its first draft, which consisted of some parts mostly fleshed out and some parts barely in outline form.  I have become more comfortable with crafting a rudimentary version of papers and then creating a new, revised version, especially as I have experienced how tenuous content saved on Word can be at times.  When working with technical documents, revision of format can be a significant boon to content, readability, and usability (figure 16; figure 17).  Part of how we were able to progress in this manner was by collaboration, mainly with our group members but also with other groups.  I have also become better at recognizing shortcomings in my own work, and have become more diligent about reading and rereading my own work (unlike my high school days, in which I often submitted without even giving things a once over).  This is probably due somewhat to the length of the papers, but also to their dynamic nature.  Finally, direct commentary has allowed me to make revisions for acute problems, and sometimes to even find other areas for improvement in the course of this (figure 18; figure 19).
